Out of Harm's Way
Objective:
To equip participants with the necessary tools to deal with the legal and technical aspects of school safety.
Special Considerations:
- This meeting is scheduled by request from the school board
- Board members will meet together as a team
- Meeting is held in the local school system
Description:
With the incidences of school violence across the nation increasing in both frequency and intensity, school safety has become a major concern for everyone responsible for the safety of children. This session takes a closer look at some of the major issues facing school systems today.
Some of the timely and important topics that may be addressed are:
- Student Discipline
- Campus Security
- Search and Seizures
- Drugs and Alcohol
- Weapons
- Gangs
- Liability for School Staffs
- Dealing with Aggressive Behavior
- Disciplinary Hearing Authorities
- Crisis Plans
- Working with Law Enforcement Agencies
A system will choose from these topics to construct a workshop that suits their school system's needs.
Presenter:
Randall G. Bennett serves as Deputy Executive Director and General Counsel to the Tennessee School Boards Association. He oversees the membership services, legal and policy departments for the Tennessee School Boards Association. Randy has been with the association for 12 years. He is a graduate of East Tennessee State University and The Nashville School of Law, graduating from both institutions with honors. He was formerly an elected member of the Johnson City Tennessee Board of Education and served as a public safety officer with the Johnson City Police Department
