Student Recognition Award

 Each year the Tennessee School Boards Association shall recognize students from across the state who have distinguished themselves in academics, community leadership and engagement.

  1. Applications shall be made on the official form provided by TSBA.
  2. Applications may be made by superintendents, school board members, or district directors.
  3. Application forms shall be submitted by June 1.
  4. Applicants must be a 9th, 10th, or 11th grade student in a public school in Tennessee.
  5. The President of TSBA shall appoint a panel of judges to rate and rank the nominees.
  6. An award will be given in each of the nine districts at the September Fall District Meetings.
  7. The home boards of the district winners will be encouraged to arrange for their winning student to give at least one presentation to a local civic group after being named the district winner.
  8. The nine district winners will be asked to write a 1000 word essay on a selected TSBA topic to be considered for the statewide overall winner.
  9. To determine a statewide winner, the nine (9) district winners will be interviewed in Nashville during the pre-convention leadership conference by a committee appointed by the TSBA President.
  10. The statewide winner will be recognized at the Opening General Session of the Annual Convention and awarded a $2000 scholarship.
  11. The nine district awards shall be made in the form of a plaque and the overall statewide winner award shall be made in form of a plaque and a $2000 scholarship.
